Description
Help students understand parallax and how astronomers measure stellar distance with this hands-on astronomy lab activity! Students observe a pushpin from two different viewpoints, mark its apparent positions, and compare the parallax shift at distances of 25 cm, 50 cm, 75 cm, and 100 cm. Through their observations and data, students discover that closer objects have a larger parallax shift while farther objects have a smaller parallax shift.
This minimal-prep parallax lab includes clear student procedures, illustrated setup directions, data-recording plots, analysis questions, teacher directions, an answer key, and instructional slides.
This activity includes both print and digital options, making it easy to use with traditional worksheets, interactive science notebooks, or a digital classroom. Teacher directions and answer keys are also included to make prep and implementation simple.
All files compatible with Google apps.
