Description
Make learning the phases of the Moon memorable with this hands-on Oreo Cookie Moon Phases Lab Activity! Students use Oreo® cookies to create models of the eight Moon phases while learning how the illuminated portion of the Moon appears to change as the Moon revolves around Earth. This engaging middle school Earth and space science activity combines modeling, observation, and analysis in a fun, low-prep lesson.
Students will model the New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and Waning Crescent. As students build their cookie models, they arrange the phases in the correct sequence, identify the illuminated portions of the Moon, and demonstrate their understanding through analysis questions.
This Moon phases activity includes both print and digital options, making it easy to use with traditional worksheets, interactive science notebooks, or a digital classroom. Teacher directions and answer keys are also included to make prep and implementation simple.
