Description
This Electromagnets Lab gives students a hands-on investigation into how electricity creates magnetism while reinforcing key concepts through data collection, analysis, and CER-style conclusion questions. Students build their own electromagnets using simple classroom materials, test different wire coil and battery configurations, and discover what makes an electromagnet stronger or weaker.
Designed for middle school physical science, this inquiry-based lab is easy to set up, requires inexpensive materials, and includes everything you need for a successful lesson. Students collect quantitative data, identify patterns, explain the relationship between electric current and magnetic fields, and apply their understanding through meaningful written responses. A digital version is also included, making it easy to use in 1:1 classrooms, blended learning, or absent student make-up work.
