Description
Help students explore how rocks change with this rock cycle journey dice game for middle school science. Students move between stations, roll a 3d cube to determine their next step, and record the processes and years spent at each location. At the end, they calculate the total time of their rock’s journey and compare their journey with other students.
This activity covers igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks and the processes that connect them, including weathering and erosion, compaction and cementation, melting, cooling, heat and pressure, and movement to Earth’s surface. Different rolls lead to different journeys, helping students see that the rock cycle has many possible pathways.
